Role

Head of Markets, Asia

Details

This role is an internship, with an initial period of 3 months. The position is part-time, and you would be expected to put in c. 5-7 hours per week.

The role is unpaid - no-one in OxFounders is taking a salary at the moment. However, there is potential for this to move into a paid part-time or full-time role in future.

Role Description

Your role will predominantly involve you getting immersed into the ins and outs of startup ecosystems in Asia, mostly focused on India. You will write short weekly updates about important developments, as well as work towards writing a report on the growth, strength and weaknesses of India's startup ecosystem within your first month.

We will have brief weekly team catch-ups, and you may also be occasionally asked to join us for meetings with government partners.

Opportunities

Your role will mean you will have access to and be able to build a large network in the startup world, including with founders building across the globe - from São Paulo to Almaty - as well as the chance to meet and get involved with different startup projects.

You will get experience working with government officials, entrepreneurs, investors, and other key players across the innovation ecosystem, in a fast-moving team

You will, effectively, be employee #3 in a startup - which means you will be involved in high-level conversations and get an executive overview into how a startup functions.

This will also allow you to develop lateral thinking and problem-solving skills in a dynamic situation, where the team will be working on projects with real-world impact.

Background

Our 8 events across India, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan demonstrated the incredible amount of talent in the region. Founders from all sectors took part, and the quality of the projects that were pitched was high.

We were also impressed by the maturity and strength of startup ecosystems, especially in India, which is the most established of the startup ecosystems we were in. Many other countries where we've held events look to India as an example of how to get an ecosystem right.

As we're launching our Advisory project, having an expert on the ground has become increasingly important. We're going to be taking on projects with local and national governments aimed at building and strengthening innovation ecosystems. This will involve ecosystem assessments, policy reviews, and comparative analysis - thinking about what works, what doesn't, and what might need to be adjusted or could be learned from leading examples.

You'll play a key part in making sure we get that advice right.
