OxFounders Tour Diaries: BRAZIL 🇧🇷

We're so excited to share the news of our 6th World Tour stop, as we held our event in São Paulo last week in collaboration with the USP - Universidade de São Paulo.

After the toughest selection round so far, nine startups were chosen for our showcase pitching competition. Our audience? A hand-picked group of over 50 of the Brazilian startup ecosystem's top minds, including angel investors, VCs, and founders as well as diplomats and academics 🔥.

In a major milestone for Oxford Founders Global, we were thrilled to have this event officially supported by the UK government and UK in Brazil 🇬🇧. It was an honour to welcome Sarah Clegg, Deputy Consul General, as our keynote speaker 🎙️.

We were delighted also to welcome an esteemed jury, including LatAm Head at Seedstars, Samantha Batista, Director of the UK-Brazil Tech Hub, Andrea Motta, President of the British Chamber of Commerce, Marcio Zanetti, and founder, investor and AWS startups leader Super Rick (Richard Hager). We also had a brilliant virtual jury, including Dillon Roberts, Matthew Holding 강마태, Meghan S., and Carolina Stecca Douek.

A massive congratulations to our winning startups:

🏆 1st Place - gen-t, pitched by Lygia Pereira

🥈 2nd Place - Umbloco, pitched by Lucas Lopes and Fabio Iori

🥉 3rd Place - Bel, pitched by Maria Eduarda Herriot (coming all the way from Rio 👏)

❤️ Audience Favourite - Teddy, pitched by Isaac Matzner

And to all our other incredibly strong teams, including Movestax, Vigilantes do Sono, BGEnergy, BioLinker, and Lummen AI.

A key focus of our event was securing exposure for the startups to top investors and media, both from Brazil and the wider LATAM region, as well as the UK. We were really happy to see major firms and active investors taking part, including Plug and Play Tech Center, bossa invest, Seedstars, LAAS Latin American Angels Society, and many more. All winning teams also received $5000 in credits from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

🚨4 teams are already in talks for investment since the event.🚨

A HUGE thank you to the wonderful team at SciBiz USP, without whom the event couldn't have happened, in particular to Aline Figlioli who lost many nights of sleep to help co-ordinate the event and who was a tremendous pleasure to work with. And also to Prof Moacir de Miranda Oliveira Jr. for hosting us and believing in the project - we are incredibly grateful. And last (but not least) to all of the other friends and colleagues who helped us throughout, including Hálef Soler, Fernanda Hamilton, Laura Flaquer Moreira, Elisa Lurago da Silva, Victor Lugli, Marco De Biasi and many more. 🙏

We LOVED our time in Brazil and can't wait to keep building our community of talented founders there. Follow our updates here on our website and - if you want to find out more about our brilliant startup teams - don't hesitate to get in touch.
